New property and accommodation for Set Her Free
We are happy to announce that Set Her Free acquired a new residence close to the old facilities in Kawempe Division in Kampala, moving to a different Plot on Dr. Sembeguya Road, Keti Falawo, Bombo Road, in Kampala. During the last week of September, Set Her Free transferred its operation after finishing up essential renovation works and the sourcing of a well.
With the new place, Set Her Free is able to accommodate more girls and offer indoor classes. Inside the main building, three floors are available for dormitory, classrooms and office spaces. A second smaller building contains 3 smaller rooms that can be used as additional classrooms.
Currently, Set Her Free continues with renovation works which are required including the face of the building, sanitary facilities, painting, as well as floor works, and fencing to increase security. As renovation continues, the basement level should be made available for additional accommodation.
Furthermore, more land is available, which allows for recreational activities, outdoor classes and engagement with the local community. A football pitch is shared with a sports team that uses the field for training sessions in the afternoon. For the future the full potential of the property should be utilised. It is planned to create plots for community gardening at the back of the property. Among others, herbs should be grown as well as vegetables that can be used for daily meal preparation, increasing self-efficiency of the organisation. With this project, the students get a first-hand experience in growing their own fruits and vegetables.
